I don’t buy my phone for the camera though it’s an important feature. If I want a high end, studio quality photo I’ll use my Nikon for that.

If you can understand basic lighting, composition and posing – you’ll have the “best” camera phone too. Camera tech is at the point where it’s up to the person taking the photo on how good of a photo they’ll have for the most part.
It is a pity that MKBHD specified that the comparison falls on photos for user use. So we are talking about a photo taken in JPG, which gives a very good quality in proportion also to the cost of the device.
If we talk about the quality of the file:
To date, Xiaomi and Apple are unbeatable given the quality of their Raw (for photos) and ProRes (for videos) files. The competition is between these two brands.
This, however, is a different subject, as this type of file is designed specifically to be processed in post production and therefore requires experience in a more professional field.
In conclusion: MKBHD’s speech cannot be summarised in a short (and to be frank, this short is misleading) and should be analysed carefully. But if you want to cut a long story short, you can get a Google Pixel to get great photos in JPG, but if you want to use your smartphone to take photos or videos that you can then edit, you’re better off with the high-end xiaomi and iPhone.
Samsung as always knows how to do everything, but nothing better than the others who, on single features, can beat Samsung.

There are other phones than those he compared that take very good pictures, and he unfortunately doesn’t test all phones available.
The problem is that Google Uses AI to make the photo better which is unfair in comparison to the iPhone which in ProRaw mode does not do any post processing. and eithout proraw it does post processing, but not complete AI

This is just point and shoot though. Many cameras can be really good with adjustment like the Sony Xperia mark 5 which performed terribly in the test.

I have an iPhone 11. Pretty old, and the camera was also soaked with water so it’s a bit damaged. Yesterday I went in an Italian old church and from the outside I took a picture of the bell tower. Zooming in I could see the individual bricks, even though I could not see them with my eyes, because it was so high. How do we need better cameras?

As an iPhone user, I couldn’t give a fuck. If you want to take good photos, you’re using a real camera. Phone cameras are just for quick snaps.
This has very little to do with what phone has the best camera, but what phone does the most post-processing to the image, and the pixel’s approach to everything is to add more post-processing. I would love to see a comparison of the raw image data from every phone, then you could see who has the best camera.
